Technical Terms Glossary

Getting familiar with the basic terms, knowing a little bit more about the technical expressions can help us a lot. It can give us a better understanding, while reading the quotes we receive from suppliers. It can also be a great place to start if someone decides to learn and eventually do their own home automation.

Automation

Based on previously set conditions, the system will execute on or more functions, if those pre-set conditions occure, without our interaction. Read More.

Control

We issue a command, and the system will execute one or more functions as the direct response to our request.

Controller

When we use a regular light switch, the switch acts as the controller. It controls the flow of electricity, reaching the light bulb.

The handle of the switch is the interface, which we use, to "instruct" the switch to let the electricity to flow towards the light.

Integration

Putting together many different subsystems like lighting, air conditioning, alarm or audio, under the control of one master system. Integration can provide convenient access to the subsystems, through a unified interface.
